The Place

A House with a Past

The story of Benedita de Nexe begins in 1913, when this working farm was built in Santa Bárbara de Nexe. For decades, the property was closely tied to the rural life of the region. One of the outbuildings housed a small shop selling fresh local produce, while another was, for a time, used as a school.

In the 1980s, the house entered a new chapter when it was acquired by British owners. Its uses and inhabitants changed, but the features that give it its distinctive character remained: its relationship with the landscape, the scale of traditional Algarve architecture and the original details that have endured over time.

Today, Benedita de Nexe brings that history into the present. Old walls, traditional flat roof terraces and stonework sit alongside contemporary interiors and natural materials, creating a balance of simplicity, character and comfort.

The spaces have been designed to be lived in at an unhurried pace: to read, rest, work, talk, share a meal or simply be.
